My Role: Building with Divi
As a longtime Divi user and developer at Green Cha Digital, I took on the challenge of showcasing how Divi could be used to build out a complex page layout efficiently. My approach focused on:
- Speed & Ease of Use – Using Divi’s visual builder and preset styles for rapid development.
- Custom Styling – Overriding default styles, fine-tuning typography, and adjusting layouts with minimal CSS.
- Flexibility – Highlighting Divi’s global presets, dynamic content features, and how it integrates with other WordPress tools.
- Best Practices – Demonstrating Divi’s performance optimizations and how to structure pages for both usability and scalability.
Comparing Divi & Greenshift
While I built with Divi, Lex van Dommelen worked with Greenshift, an up-and-coming block-based builder designed for modern Gutenberg workflows. This comparison provided great insights into:
Divi Strengths:
✅ Well-established with a huge ecosystem and extensive documentation.
✅ Strong visual builder with AI-powered features for content generation.
✅ Global styling and presets for efficient design control.
✅ Highly customizable with CSS overrides and developer-friendly settings.
Greenshift Strengths:
✅ Built natively for Gutenberg, leveraging block-based editing.
✅ Lightweight and fast, optimized for performance.
✅ Offers advanced animations and query loops for dynamic content.
✅ More control over CSS Grid & Flexbox, great for modern layouts.
Despite their differences, both tools proved to be powerful, and the stream highlighted how different workflows can achieve the same results in unique ways.
Key Takeaways from the Livestream
- Every builder has its strengths and weaknesses. Choosing between Divi and Greenshift (or any other builder) depends on your specific project needs and preferences.
- Page speed and performance matter. Greenshift excels in lightweight structure, while Divi’s Divi 5 update is improving performance drastically.
- Automation & presets save time. Both builders offer ways to streamline repetitive tasks and ensure consistency.
- Community support is invaluable. Whether it’s the Divi community or Greenshift’s active development team, having a strong user base makes a huge difference.
